Neck Pain

back view of neck painConsidering the amount of time people spend at their workstations or on devices, it’s no surprise that many suffer from neck pain.

It’s rare for neck discomfort to be a symptom of a more serious problem. If, however, your neck pain is accompanied by numbness or loss of strength in your arms or hands, or if you have shooting pain into your shoulder or down your arm, seek medical care immediately.

Symptoms

Signs and symptoms of neck discomfort include:
  • Muscle tightness and spasms
  • A decreased ability to move your head
  • Headache
  • Radiating pain in the arm or hand

Common Causes

Because your neck is flexible and supports the weight of your head, it can be susceptible to injuries and conditions that result in pain and restricted motion.

Here are some of the most common causes of neck pain:

Muscle strains. Sitting for hours hunched over your computer often triggers muscle strains. Even reading in bed—especially without proper neck support—can take a toll on your muscles.

Worn joints. As you age, your joints tend to wear down. Osteoarthritis causes the cushions (cartilage) between your bones (vertebrae) to deteriorate. Your body then develops bone spurs that affect joint motion and cause pain.

Nerve compression. Herniated disks or bone spurs in the vertebrae of your neck can put pressure on the nerves that branch out from the spinal cord.

Injuries. Auto collisions often lead to whiplash. This type of injury occurs when the head is jerked backward and then forward, straining soft tissues.

Our Approach

We use various techniques at HealthyWays Integrated Wellness Solutions to respond to discomfort, including chiropractic adjustments, corrective exercises, muscle stimulation, ice, shockwave therapy, and traction. Myofascial techniques, including active stretching, also play a huge role in recovery.

Our nurse practitioners can also administer trigger point injections for pain management when necessary. We customize our approach for each patient to ensure your unique needs are met, since everyone’s body responds differently to care.

Safe and Effective Relief

While healing is a process that will take several weeks to a few months, most patients notice a profound difference in pain and functioning within the first two to three days.

Our chiropractors will carefully review your family and personal health history, along with taking X-rays, to evaluate whether you have any contraindications before beginning care. We’ll never do anything that makes you uncomfortable. Our team gives a detailed explanation of what to expect, and we start with a very light first adjustment to see how your body reacts to care.

Start Feeling Better

Many patients who lived with long-term neck pain found total relief after receiving our care. Will you be next? Book your appointment today to start putting discomfort behind you.
